Kitanya Responds to Comments — 8

The Fourth of July holiday and celebrations in America made this a slow week, so there hasn’t been much action down in the comments of my pieces. I’m in the middle of a streak of writing about Colin Kaepernick every week, and I wanted to thank Fleet McClamrock for this comment on my story, The Maligning of Colin Kaepernick:

reminds me of John Prine song “Your flag decal won’t get you into Heaven anymore” 1971 anti war song-thanks for keeping Kap in the news

I was unfamiliar with the John Prine song and found it on YouTube (it really is a treasure trove for old music).

It’s strange how the same things keep happening again and again. We can’t seem to learn to see through performative patriotism…

It might just be me not knowing where to look, but there doesn’t seem to be a wave of popular music wrestling with this political moment. There are flashes here and there, but there doesn’t seem to be a movement arising. I hope I’m just an Olde who’s wrong about that…

And yes, I’m currently in the business of trying to keep Kap in the news. I think the conversation around him needs to shift. I don’t have enough of a platform to do much on that front, but with social media, you never know what will take off, so I thought I’d give it a whirl.

Hopefully, there’ll be more to talk about next week!
